Strong social networks are good for us. We need people around us. It's how we learn, grow, and vent. We need to know we're not alone in everything we do. It's one of the reasons we have support groups for anything and everything.
This week, take a look around. Are you nurturing the relationships around you? Do you have super strong relationships with people outside of work but often neglect the relationships with your coworkers? Take time to change that. After all, you do spend hours upon hours with those folks.
Send a note (or two or three) to colleagues. Buy one package of blank cards, and look for two people each day who made your day better. Send them a note, and tell them. By the end of the week, you will have sent the entire package. I love sending notes to people. You'd be surprised by the reaction that people have to a hand-written note these days. I've made many a great friend that way.
It may seem like caring for others, and it is. It is also very much self-care.
